OFX and QBO: what is different
Many banks and money programs export OFX, but QuickBooks only imports bank files through Web Connect, which expects a QBO file. The two are almost the same format, and this converter adds what QuickBooks looks for.
OFX and QBO: what is different
| OFX | QBO | |
|---|---|---|
| Format | Open Financial Exchange | OFX 1.02 for QuickBooks |
| Intuit bank ID (INTU.BID) | Not needed | Required: QuickBooks uses it to recognise the bank |
| Opens in | Many money programs | QuickBooks Desktop and Online |
How to convert OFX to QBO
- Drop the .ofx file above.
- Open "File settings" to check the account type (checking, savings or credit card) and number.
- Press QBO and import it: in QuickBooks Desktop use File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files; in QuickBooks Online use Banking, Upload transactions.
If QuickBooks refuses the file
- "Bank not supported" or a similar message: enter your own bank's Intuit ID in File settings and download again.
- Imported into the wrong account: QuickBooks links a file to an account by the account number; set it in File settings before you download.
- Nothing imported: QuickBooks skips transactions it already has (same transaction ID). That is expected when files overlap.
Transaction IDs (FITID) from the OFX file are kept, so QuickBooks still recognises transactions you imported earlier and does not duplicate them.
Nothing is uploaded. The files are read and written by code running in your browser, so it works with bank data you would rather not send anywhere, and there is no limit on how many files you convert.

अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले सवाल
Is OFX the same as QBO?
QBO is OFX 1.02 with an Intuit bank ID added. That ID is what makes QuickBooks accept the file through Web Connect.
What Intuit bank ID should I use?
The ID QuickBooks has for your bank. If your bank already gives you QBO files, open one in a text editor and copy the number after INTU.BID.
Can I convert a credit card OFX?
Yes. Credit card files are read as such; the QBO file keeps the credit card account type.
Will QuickBooks create duplicates?
Not for transactions it has already imported, because the original transaction IDs are kept in the QBO file.
Is it free, and is there a limit?
Yes, it is free with no sign up and no limit, because the conversion runs in your browser and uses none of our servers.
