Product Description Template: 4 Examples for Shops and B2B
· 阅读约 5 分钟

A good product description template has five parts: a title that names the product and its key spec, a one or two sentence summary of what it is and who it is for, three to six bullet points of features with numbers, a specifications block (size, material, weight, packing), and for trade buyers the commercial terms (minimum order, lead time, Incoterm). Fill each part with facts, not adjectives, and adjust the length and tone to where it will appear. Below is the template, four examples, and the mistakes that cost sales.
The product description template
Copy this template and replace each bracket with real facts about your product.
Title: [Product name] [main spec] [material or variant]
Summary: [What it is] for [who or what use]. [The one reason to choose it.]
Key features:
- [Feature with a number: size, capacity, rating]
- [Feature that solves a problem]
- [Quality, standard or certificate]
- [Care, use or compatibility]
Specifications: Size [ ] · Material [ ] · Weight [ ] · Colour [ ] · Packing [ ]
For trade buyers: MOQ [ ] · Lead time [ ] · Price basis [Incoterm and place] · Payment [ ]
Not every channel needs every part. A marketplace listing leans on the title and bullets; a B2B offer needs the trade block; a catalogue keeps only the essentials.
What makes a product description work
A product description works when the reader finds the facts they need to decide, in the order they look for them. In practice:
- Lead with the exact product. "Porcelain floor tile 60x60 cm, matt grey" is clearer than "Premium designer tile".
- Use numbers. Sizes, weights, quantities, ratings and standards answer questions before they are asked.
- Say who it is for. Kitchens, warehouses, hotels, retailers: the right buyer recognises themselves.
- Keep claims provable. "Slip resistance R10 (tested to DIN 51130)" earns trust; "best quality" does not.
- Match the reader's words. Retail shoppers search "non slip bathroom tiles"; trade buyers search "porcelain tile 60x60 supplier".
Product description examples
Here is the same product written for four places. The facts stay the same; the order, length and tone change.
Example 1: Marketplace listing
Porcelain Floor Tile 60x60 cm, Matt Grey, Non Slip (R10), Box of 4
- Large 60x60 cm format with 2 mm grout joints for a clean modern floor
- Matt, slip resistant R10 surface suited to kitchens and bathrooms
- Through body porcelain: chips do not show a different colour
- Frost resistant for covered patios
- 4 tiles per box, covers 1.44 m²
Marketplaces reward clear titles and scannable bullets. Put the size and the problem it solves in the title.
Example 2: Catalogue or price list
PT-6060-GR Porcelain tile 60x60 cm, matt grey, R10. 4 pcs per box (1.44 m²), 32 kg per box. 48 boxes per pallet.
Catalogues need short, consistent lines with a code so buyers can order by reference.
Example 3: B2B export offer
Porcelain floor tile 60x60 cm, matt grey, R10
Through body porcelain for commercial and residential floors, made to ISO 13006. Packed 4 pcs per box, 48 boxes per pallet, about 800 boxes per 20 ft container (limited by weight, not space).
MOQ: 1x20 ft container. Lead time: 25 days after advance. Price basis: FOB Karachi. Payment: 30% advance, 70% against copy of bill of lading.
Trade buyers compare offers on packing, loading quantity and terms. If you quote a price, name the Incoterm so it can be compared fairly; our Incoterms guide explains each one.
Example 4: Your website
Matt grey porcelain tiles that stay calm under busy feet
Our 60x60 cm porcelain floor tile brings a quiet, stone like grey to kitchens, hallways and shops. The R10 matt surface gives grip when wet, and the colour runs through the whole tile, so small chips stay hard to spot. Order samples before you tile a whole floor.
On your own site you can tell more of a story, but keep the specs one click away.
The figures in these examples are illustrations. Use your own tested specs and packing data.
How to write a product description for customs
A customs description is different from a sales description: it must say what the goods are, what they are made of and what they are for, in plain words an officer can classify. Write "Glazed porcelain floor tiles, 60x60 cm, for flooring" rather than a brand name or "building materials". Vague wording such as "spare parts" or "samples" is a common reason for inspection and delay. The same wording should appear on your commercial invoice and packing list.
Product description checklist
Before you publish, run through this short checklist:
- Does the title name the product and its main spec?
- Can a buyer tell in one sentence what it is and who it is for?
- Does every feature bullet carry a number, a standard or a concrete use?
- Are size, material, weight and packing all there?
- For trade buyers: MOQ, lead time, Incoterm and payment terms?
- Is every claim something you can prove with a document?
Write product descriptions faster with AI
Our free AI product description generator follows this template for you. Type the product name and the facts (material, size, use, packing), choose where it will be used (marketplace listing, catalogue or price list, export offer to buyers, or your website), pick a tone and length, and choose one of eight languages. It writes a title, a short summary, the full description, feature bullets and a customs description, using only the facts you typed. Copy it, save it as Word, or print it to PDF. It is free with no sign up.
Common product description mistakes
- Adjectives instead of facts. "High quality" tells the buyer nothing; a standard or a test result does.
- Copying the manufacturer's text. Marketplaces and search engines see the same words on hundreds of pages. Write your own.
- Missing packing data. B2B buyers need units per carton and per pallet or container to calculate freight; see our CBM calculator.
- One description for every channel. Shorten for catalogues, add trade terms for buyers, add story for your site.
- Claims you cannot prove. Certifications and ratings must be real; buyers and marketplaces ask for the documents.
Frequently asked questions
What should a product description include?
A clear title with the main spec, a short summary of what it is and who it is for, feature bullets with numbers, a specifications block, and for trade buyers the minimum order, lead time, price basis and payment terms.
How long should a product description be?
Long enough to answer the buyer's questions and no longer. Marketplace bullets and catalogue lines are short; a website page can run 100 to 300 words. A B2B offer adds a few lines of trade terms.
What is the difference between a B2B and a B2C product description?
A B2C description sells the benefit to one user, while a B2B description helps a buyer compare suppliers: specs, standards, packing, loading quantities, MOQ, lead time and Incoterms matter more than style.
Can I use AI to write product descriptions?
Yes, as long as you give it real facts and check the result. The TradingForms AI product description generator writes only from the facts you type and leaves out anything you did not provide, so review the specs before you publish.
What is a customs product description?
It is a plain description of what the goods are, what they are made of and what they are used for, so customs can classify them. Avoid brand names and vague words like parts or samples, and use the same wording on the invoice and packing list.
