How to convert CSV to QBO

When your bank only exports CSV, or you keep transactions in a spreadsheet, QuickBooks Desktop cannot import them as a bank feed. Converting the CSV to QBO lets you use Web Connect, with the usual matching and bank rules.

How to convert CSV to QBO

  1. Drop the CSV file. The columns are read from the header row.
  2. Check "Which column is which". Date, Description, and either Amount (money in positive, money out negative) or separate Money out and Money in columns.
  3. Set the date order if your dates look like 03/04/2026, so day and month are not swapped.
  4. Open "File settings" for the account type and number.
  5. Press QBO and import it in QuickBooks with File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files.

CSV layouts that work

LayoutExample header
One signed amountDate, Description, Amount
Separate columnsDate, Narrative, Debit, Credit, Balance
EuropeanDatum; Omschrijving; Bedrag (semicolons, decimal commas)

Commas, semicolons, tabs and pipes are detected, as are amounts like 1,234.56, 1.234,56, (12.00) and 12.00 DR.

Before you import

  • Rows whose date could not be read are left out of the QBO file and counted on screen; fix them in the CSV and convert again.
  • Each transaction gets a stable ID from its date, amount and position, so converting the same CSV twice gives the same IDs.
  • Back up the QuickBooks company file before any import.

Starting from a PDF statement? Use the bank statement to Excel tool, which also gives you QBO directly.

Nothing is uploaded. The files are read and written by code running in your browser, so it works with bank data you would rather not send anywhere, and there is no limit on how many files you convert.

常见问题

Can QuickBooks import a CSV directly?

QuickBooks Online can upload a 3 or 4 column CSV. QuickBooks Desktop imports bank transactions through Web Connect, which needs a QBO file; convert the CSV here first.

My amounts are in two columns. Does it work?

Yes. Set Money out and Money in to those columns and leave Amount empty.

Why were some rows left out?

Their date could not be read. Set the date order or fix those dates in the CSV, then convert again. The count is shown above the buttons.

Can I make a QFX file for Quicken instead?

Yes. Press QFX after mapping the columns; OFX and IIF are there too.

Is it free, and is there a limit?

Yes, it is free with no sign up and no limit, because the conversion runs in your browser and uses none of our servers.
