What a dangerous goods declaration shows

A dangerous goods declaration (DGD) tells the carrier exactly what hazardous goods are in a shipment, so they are stowed, handled and dealt with safely in an emergency. Paints, batteries, chemicals, aerosols and many cleaning products need one.

Rules by mode

  • Sea: IMDG Code; the multimodal DG form is widely used.
  • Road in Europe: ADR transport document.
  • Air: IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations; airlines require their own Shipper's Declaration form.

Only a person trained in the regulations may sign it. This page gives a draft to prepare the data; check it against the SDS and the carrier's form. List the packages on the packing list too.
