How to convert a QBO file to Excel

Banks offer QBO downloads for QuickBooks, but a spreadsheet is often what you need: to reconcile a month, build a cash flow, answer an auditor or share figures with someone who does not use QuickBooks. This turns QBO files into a proper Excel workbook.

How to convert a QBO file to Excel

  1. Download the QBO file from online banking (often under "Download", "Export" or "QuickBooks Web Connect").
  2. Choose or drop it above. Add more months at the same time if you like.
  3. Press Excel. The workbook opens with dates, payees and amounts in their own columns.

What the workbook looks like

DateDescriptionReferenceMoney outMoney inAmount
2026-10-02Rent October10421,500.00-1,500.00
2026-10-03Casa Ceramica, invoice 772,450.752,450.75

Amounts are real numbers in Excel (not text), so SUM, filters and pivot tables work straight away.

Useful things to do next in Excel

  • Total the Money out column by payee with a pivot table to see where cash goes.
  • Add a Category column and filter by it to prepare a profit and loss by month.
  • Match Money in rows against open invoices and chase the rest with the payment reminder email generator.

Only have a PDF statement? The bank statement to Excel tool reads PDFs instead.

Nothing is uploaded. The files are read and written by code running in your browser, so it works with bank data you would rather not send anywhere, and there is no limit on how many files you convert.

Частые вопросы

Can Excel open a QBO file directly?

No. QBO is an OFX data file for QuickBooks. Convert it here to an .xlsx workbook and open that.

Are the amounts numbers or text?

Numbers, formatted with two decimals, so formulas, filters and pivot tables work without any cleanup.

Does it keep the cheque numbers?

Yes. CHECKNUM or REFNUM from the QBO file goes to the Reference column.

Can I go back from Excel to QBO?

Save the sheet as CSV and use the CSV to QBO converter. The account details you enter there are written into the new QBO file.

Is it free, and is there a limit?

Yes, it is free with no sign up and no limit, because the conversion runs in your browser and uses none of our servers.
