What is inside a QBO file
A QBO file is what your bank gives you when you choose "QuickBooks Web Connect" in online banking. It is made for QuickBooks to import, but you cannot open it in Excel or send it to an accountant who uses other software. This converter turns it into a plain CSV.
What is inside a QBO file
QBO is Open Financial Exchange (OFX 1.02) with one extra line, the Intuit bank ID, that tells QuickBooks which bank sent it. Each transaction is a STMTTRN block:
| QBO tag | CSV column |
|---|---|
| DTPOSTED | Date (as YYYY-MM-DD) |
| NAME and MEMO | Description |
| CHECKNUM or REFNUM | Reference |
| TRNAMT | Amount, plus Money out or Money in |
The account number and currency are read too, so the QFX, OFX or IIF files you download from the same file here keep those account details. A CSV holds only the transactions: to turn it back into a QBO later, use the CSV to QBO converter and enter the account details in its File settings.
How to convert QBO to CSV
- Choose or drop one or more .qbo files (QFX and OFX work too).
- Check the totals and the date range.
- Press CSV. Excel, IIF, OFX and QFX are one click away.
Several months in one CSV
Drop all the months together. Transactions are merged and sorted by date, and a transaction that appears in two downloads (same bank transaction ID) is kept once, which happens when the date ranges overlap.
Importing the CSV
QuickBooks Online accepts a 3 column CSV (date, description, amount) or a 4 column one (date, description, credit, debit). Our file has both an Amount column and separate Money out and Money in columns, so delete the ones the import does not need. Xero and Sage can map the columns during import. Matching receipts from buyers? Pair them with your commercial invoices.
Nothing is uploaded. The files are read and written by code running in your browser, so it works with bank data you would rather not send anywhere, and there is no limit on how many files you convert.

Preguntas frecuentes
How do I open a QBO file in Excel?
Convert it to CSV or Excel here, then open that file. Excel cannot read QBO directly because it is an OFX file meant for QuickBooks.
Can I convert several QBO files into one CSV?
Yes. Drop them together; they are merged, sorted by date, and transactions repeated across files are kept once.
Is a QFX or OFX file the same?
Nearly. All three are OFX inside; QBO and QFX carry an Intuit bank ID for QuickBooks or Quicken. This converter reads all three.
Why are some amounts negative?
In the Amount column money out is negative and money in is positive, as in the QBO file. The Money out and Money in columns show the same amounts without signs.
Is it free, and is there a limit?
Yes, it is free with no sign up and no limit, because the conversion runs in your browser and uses none of our servers.
