Pallet Label Template and Generator (SSCC Barcode)

Make pallet labels in one go: pallet 1 of N to N of N, ship to and from, PO, item, quantity, weight and carrier, with an SSCC (GS1-128) or Code 128 barcode, on 4 × 6 in labels, letter or A4.

One label each: pallet 1 of N, 2 of N…

The check digit is added for you and the serial goes up by one for each pallet. Use your own GS1 company prefix; the one shown is GS1's example.

Pallet labels for every pallet in a shipment

A pallet label tells the warehouse, the carrier and the receiver what is on a pallet and where it goes, without opening the wrap. This pallet label template makes a label for every pallet of a shipment at once, numbered pallet 1 of N, with an optional SSCC barcode the receiving system can scan.

What goes on a pallet label

  • Ship to and ship from addresses.
  • PO or order number, the reference most receivers check first.
  • Item, SKU and description, quantity on the pallet and its weight.
  • Pallet x of y, so a missing pallet shows at once.
  • Carrier and PRO number for LTL freight.
  • A barcode: an SSCC in GS1-128 for retailers and 3PLs that ask for one, or a Code 128 barcode of the PO.

SSCC pallet labels (GS1-128)

The SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code) is an 18 digit number that identifies one pallet: an extension digit, your GS1 company prefix, a serial number and a check digit. The generator works out the check digit, adds one to the serial for each pallet, and prints it as a GS1-128 barcode with the (00) application identifier. Many large retailers require an SSCC label that matches the advance ship notice (ASN); confirm their layout guide (often called a GS1 logistic label) before you ship.

How to label a pallet

  1. Print at 100% (actual size) on 4 × 6 in thermal labels, or on letter or A4 paper.
  2. Put a label on at least two adjacent sides of the pallet, about 20 to 32 in (50 to 80 cm) from the floor.
  3. Apply it on top of the stretch wrap, or in a clear pouch, so it can be read and scanned.
  4. Keep the pallet count the same on the bill of lading. Mark the cartons inside with the shipping marks generator.

Everything is made in your browser: nothing you type is uploaded. Download the PDF and print it at 100% (actual size).

Frequently asked questions

What should a pallet label include?

Ship to and from, the PO or order number, item and quantity, the weight, pallet x of y, and a barcode if your customer scans pallets. Retailers may add their own fields in a routing guide.

What is an SSCC label?

A pallet label with an 18 digit Serial Shipping Container Code in a GS1-128 barcode. Each pallet gets its own SSCC, built from your GS1 company prefix and a serial number.

Do I need a GS1 company prefix for SSCC labels?

Yes, for SSCCs that a retailer will accept you need your own prefix from GS1. The prefix in the example is GS1's sample number.

What size is a pallet label?

Usually 4 × 6 in on a thermal printer, or a full letter or A4 page. Larger is easier to read from a forklift.

Where do you put labels on a pallet?

On at least two adjacent sides, outside the stretch wrap and about 20 to 32 in from the floor, so they can be read from an aisle.

Is the label maker free?

Yes. No sign up, no watermark and no limit on the number of labels. The PDF is made in your browser.
