How to Print Avery 5160 Labels: Word, Google Docs or Free Online
· 6 мин чтения

To print Avery 5160 labels, use a template laid out for a Letter sheet of 30 labels (3 columns by 10 rows, each 1 × 2⅝ inches), type or merge your addresses into it, do a test print on plain paper, and then print on the label sheet at 100% scale. You can do this in Microsoft Word with its built in Avery 5160 layout, in Google Docs with a label add-on, or with a free online address label maker that turns a pasted list or CSV into a ready PDF.
Below you will find the exact sheet measurements, the steps for each method, and the fixes for the most common problem: labels that slowly drift off the stickers as you go down the page.
What size is an Avery 5160 label?
An Avery 5160 label is 1 inch tall and 2⅝ inches wide, with 30 labels on a US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) sheet. These are the measurements any template has to match:
| Measurement | Value |
|---|---|
| Sheet | US Letter, 8.5 × 11 in |
| Labels per sheet | 30 (3 across, 10 down) |
| Label size | 1 × 2⅝ in (2.625 in) |
| Top and bottom margin | 0.5 in |
| Left and right margin | 3/16 in (0.1875 in) |
| Gap between columns | 1/8 in (label start to label start: 2.75 in) |
| Gap between rows | none (labels touch) |
The same layout is used by Avery 8160 (inkjet) and other sheets sold as "5160 compatible", so one template prints on all of them. Check the product number on the pack before you start.
How to print Avery 5160 labels in Word
Word has the Avery 5160 layout built in, so you do not need to download anything.
- Open Word and go to Mailings, then Labels.
- Click Options. Under Label vendors choose Avery US Letter, then pick 5160 (Address Labels) and click OK.
- For one address on every label, type it in the Address box, choose Full page of the same label, and click New Document.
- For a list of different addresses, use Mailings, Start Mail Merge, Labels instead, choose 5160 the same way, then Select Recipients to use an Excel sheet or Outlook contacts, insert the address block, and click Update Labels so every label gets a record.
- Click Finish & Merge to see the filled labels, then print a test page.
Word's mail merge is powerful but has many steps, and a single extra blank paragraph in a label can push the text down and off the sticker.
How to make Avery 5160 labels in Google Docs
Google Docs has no built in label feature, so you have two options.
- A label add-on. In Google Docs open Extensions, then Add-ons, then Get add-ons, and search for a label merge add-on that lists Avery 5160. Most link to a Google Sheet with your addresses and generate the label document for you. Check what each add-on asks permission for and whether its free plan limits the number of labels.
- A table you build yourself. Set the page to Letter with 0.5 inch top and bottom margins, insert a 3 column table with fixed row heights of 1 inch, and type the addresses. This is fiddly, because Google Docs adds cell padding and does not let you set the 1/8 inch column gap precisely, so labels often slip by a line toward the bottom of the sheet.
If your addresses are already in Google Sheets, it is usually quicker to copy the rows and paste them into an online label maker that outputs a PDF.
How to print Avery 5160 labels free online
The free TradingForms address label maker builds a 5160 compatible PDF in your browser, with no sign up and no watermark.
- Choose Avery 5160 / 8160 / 5960 compatible as the label sheet (it is the default).
- Pick A list of addresses (mail merge), then paste your addresses with a blank line between each one, or paste rows straight from Excel or Google Sheets (name, street, city, state, ZIP). A header row is skipped automatically. You can also upload a CSV file.
- Or pick One address on every label to fill the whole sheet with your return address.
- Set the font size (it shrinks to fit long addresses), alignment, and whether the first line is bold. Use Copies of each if every address needs more than one label.
- Tick Print label outlines and download the PDF for a test print on plain paper.
- Untick the outlines, download again, and print on the label sheet.
The addresses never leave your browser, which matters when you are printing a customer or member list. The same tool also prints 5161 (1 × 4 in, 20 per sheet), 5163 (2 × 4 in, 10 per sheet), 5164 (3⅓ × 4 in, 6 per sheet) and 5167 return address labels (½ × 1¾ in, 80 per sheet).
How to fix Avery 5160 labels that print off line
Most alignment problems come from printer scaling, not from the template. Work through these in order:
- Print at 100% or Actual size. "Fit to page" or "Shrink oversized pages" scales the whole sheet by a few percent, and the error grows down the page: row 1 looks fine, row 10 is half off the sticker. This is the cause in most cases.
- Do a test print on plain paper. Hold it against a label sheet in front of a light or window to see which way it is off.
- Shift the whole page. If every label is off by the same amount, move the print. In our label maker, use Move right and Move down (in inches, negative numbers move left or up). In Word, adjust the top or side margin in the label options.
- Feed the sheet correctly. Check which side your printer prints on and load the labels face up or face down to match. Use the manual or rear tray if the sheets curl.
- Set the paper type. For laser printers choose Labels (or Heavyweight) in the print settings so the toner fuses properly. For inkjet labels such as 8160, let the ink dry before you peel.
How to reuse a partly used sheet of 5160 labels
You do not have to waste a sheet with a few labels already peeled off. In the label maker set Start at label no. to the first free position. Labels count left to right, top to bottom, so position 4 is the first label of the second row. Word can do the same with the Single label option and a row and column number, one label at a time.
Be careful running a partly used sheet through a laser printer: an exposed edge can catch on the rollers. Many people use partial sheets only in inkjet printers.
Which method should you use?
| Method | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Word Mailings | Office users with addresses in Excel or Outlook | Many steps, stray blank lines push text down |
| Google Docs add-on | Addresses already in Google Sheets | Permissions, free plan limits |
| Online label maker | Quick lists, CSV exports, return address sheets | Prints a PDF, so edit the list, not the PDF |

Frequently asked questions
Does Word have an Avery 5160 template?
Yes. In Word go to Mailings, Labels, Options, choose Avery US Letter as the vendor and 5160 as the product number. Word sets up a page of 30 labels for you, either with one address on every label or as a mail merge from a list.
How many labels are on an Avery 5160 sheet?
There are 30 labels on each Avery 5160 sheet, in 3 columns and 10 rows on US Letter paper. Each label is 1 inch tall and 2⅝ inches wide.
Is Avery 5160 the same as 8160?
They share the same layout: 30 labels of 1 × 2⅝ inches on a Letter sheet. 5160 is made for laser printers and 8160 for inkjet printers, so a 5160 template prints on both.
Why are my Avery 5160 labels not lining up?
Usually the printer is scaling the page. Print at 100% or Actual size, never Fit to page. If every label is off by the same amount, shift the whole page with a small offset, and do a test print on plain paper first.
Can I print Avery 5160 labels from Google Sheets?
Not directly, because Google Sheets cannot lay out label sheets. Use a label merge add-on, or copy the address rows from the sheet and paste them into an online label maker that creates a 5160 compatible PDF.
