How to work out a percentage off
A percentage off calculator answers the shop floor question "what will I pay?" Type the price and the percentage off and you get the new price and the saving at once. Switch the mode to find the percentage off between two prices, or the price before the sale.
How to work out a percentage off
- Divide the percentage by 100: 30% becomes 0.30.
- Multiply the price by it to get the saving: 120 × 0.30 = 36.
- Take the saving from the price: 120 − 36 = 84.
Shortcut: multiply by what is left. 30% off means you pay 70%, so 120 × 0.70 = 84.

What percentage off is 50 down to 35?
The saving is 15, and 15 ÷ 50 × 100 = 30% off.
Does sales tax apply before or after the discount?
In most places sales tax is charged on the discounted price, so you pay tax on less. Add your rate in the optional tax field.
