AI HS Code Finder by Product Description

Describe your product in plain words and this free AI HS code finder suggests the best matching HS codes from our code table, ranked, with a one line reason for each and the fact that would settle it.

Material, use and processing decide the code. The more of them you give, the surer the answer.

How to find an HS code from a description

  1. Describe the product: what it is, what it is made of and what it is used for, for example "glazed porcelain floor tiles, 60x60 cm".
  2. Press Find HS code. We search our code table first, and the AI ranks only the codes found there.
  3. Read the matches: each shows the code, its official style description, how good the match is and why.
  4. Answer the follow up if one is shown (for example water absorption for tiles), and confirm the final code with your customs broker or the official tariff.

Why the codes are never invented

Language models can write a code that looks real but does not exist. This tool cannot: codes come from our own table of chapters, headings and six digit subheadings, the AI only ranks them, and any code it returns that is not in that list is thrown away before you see it.

HS, HTS, Schedule B and HSN: which digits are the same?

CodeDigitsUsed by
HS (Harmonized System)6Every customs authority; the first 6 digits are the same worldwide
HTS10US imports
Schedule B10US exports
HSN8India (GST and customs)
CN8European Union

This finder gives you the international part (up to 6 digits). Add your country's extra digits from its tariff; for India, open the HSN code finder to see the GST rate too.

What decides an HS code?

What the goods are, what they are made of, how far they are processed and what they are used for. Two similar looking products can sit in different chapters: puffed rice is not in the rice heading, and a lithium battery for a laptop is classified as a battery, not as a laptop part. That is why the finder asks for the missing fact when the answer depends on it.

Your description is sent over an encrypted connection to our own AI server, used once and not saved.

Classification is your responsibility as importer or exporter. Use these suggestions to narrow the search, then confirm with your customs broker or the official tariff before you ship. Put the final code on your commercial invoice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the HS code for my product?

Describe what the product is, its material and its use. The finder suggests matching codes from our table with a reason for each; then confirm the code in your country's tariff or with a customs broker.

Can AI find HS codes?

AI is good at matching a description to the right wording, but it can also invent codes. Here it only ranks codes our own table supplies, and any other code is removed, so you never see a made up one.

Is the HS code the same in every country?

The first six digits are the same worldwide. Countries add more digits: 8 in India (HSN) and the EU (CN), 10 in the US (HTS for imports, Schedule B for exports).

Does it cover every product?

It covers every HS chapter and a set of commonly traded headings with their six digit subheadings. If no heading fits, it gives the chapter and tells you to check the tariff for the exact line.

Is what I type saved?

No. Your details are sent over an encrypted connection to our own AI server, used once to write the text, and not stored. We do not keep a copy or use it to train a model.

Is it really free?

Yes. There is no sign up and no paid plan. Each visitor gets a number of free runs per hour (a fair use limit that keeps the tool fast for everyone); when it resets you can write again.
