What is an experience certificate?

An experience certificate is a short formal document in which an employer certifies that a person was employed with it for a stated period, the post they held when they left, and their conduct. It is often asked for in government job applications, professional registrations and visa files in India and Pakistan.

How to fill in an experience certificate

  1. Enter the company letterhead and your logo.
  2. Add the employee's name, ID, last designation and department.
  3. Enter the date of joining and the date of leaving.
  4. Choose how to describe the conduct: good, very good or excellent.
  5. Add the name and designation of the person signing.

Each letter is written for you from the details you fill in. Click "Edit text" to change the wording, or go back to the automatic text at any time. Download a PDF or an editable Word file, or print it on your letterhead. The draft stays in your browser only; nothing is uploaded to our servers.

What the certificate says

The wording follows the usual pattern: "This is to certify that [name] was employed with [company] from [date] to [date]. At the time of leaving, [he, she or they] was working as [designation]. [His, her or their] conduct during the period of service was [good]. This certificate is issued on [his, her or their] request." Edit any line before you download.

Certificate or letter?

Use this certificate when a short formal confirmation is asked for. When the reader wants to know what the person actually did, the experience letter adds a line on duties. When the person resigned, also give a relieving letter.

Other letter formats: experience letter, relieving letter, offer letter, leave letter, NOC, medical fitness certificate.
