What is a relieving letter?

A relieving letter is the employer's written confirmation that it has accepted an employee's resignation and released them from their duties on a given date. The next employer usually asks for it to make sure the person has left their previous job properly, so it should state the last working day clearly.

How to write a relieving letter

  1. Add the company letterhead and the employee's name and address as the addressee.
  2. Enter the date of the resignation letter and the last working day.
  3. Enter the designation, department and date of joining.
  4. Choose whether the full and final settlement is completed or will be processed as per policy.
  5. Add the signer's name and designation.
